A process is defined as a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.
Great coaches like Bear Bryant, Nick Saban and Lou Holtz all pointed to having a process in place for their success. So if the process is a series of actions and steps to achieve a particular end then knowing the end or final goal is really important. Nick Saban is focused on the end goal in mind of winning a national championship when he selects coaches, recruits players, goes through spring training, and does his team’s game planning. These are all well thought out actions in order to achieve his end goal.
Consider what Steve Covey says about goals, “Begin with the end in mind and work backwards from there.” Like great coaches, we should have the end goal in mind as we go through life. The word used to describe the end goal is Legacy. It’s a big picture goal. And that is where the process of Legacy Living starts. I spent a number of years planning annual goals trying to make improvements in various areas of my life. What I came to realize was that it was more of me trying to fix these areas of my life rather than building those areas in my life. That’s the real difference when considering the end goal. Fixing areas in your life are short term without direction. Building areas in your life towards something is long term.
